Happy Halloween

This is the first year that Peanut #2 really got into Halloween. In fact, as we put him to bed tonight, his last words before he fell asleep were "Halloween cool, have candy!"

Our friend's the Garrard's had several families over for pizza and then we all went trick or treating through their neighborhood!

Well the King made it back to his kingdom, but wouldn't you know the knight was not satisfied and decided he needed to be a pirate instead - he was a cute pirate nonetheless!

"Little C" patiently waiting his turn to say "Trick or Treat"

He never stopped after that first door! We couldn't keep up with him or his brother!

Shifting gears... we then went over to the Tew's house for their annual Halloween Night Party. The rain was a bit of a damper, but the boys still had fun exploring the cemetery, the carnival games (there was a ping pong ball toss into bowls with live goldfish in them that people could win and take home with them), and the "Spook Alley!"

The boys checking out the Tew's backyard!

The scary Kara!

Another carnival game, was "Play in the Hay" - there was candy, bracelets, bouncy balls, etc... hidden in the straw!

Peanut #1 taking aim at the tin cans!

My girl Angela and myself!

"Big D" playing basketball, notice the wet basketball game and his wet hair! Our fingers are crossed that no one gets sick!

It's Party Time

Today was Big D's class Halloween Party! As one of the room moms, I have the fun job of helping to plan the class parties and boy did we have fun today! We had enjoyed some fun activities, a yummy snack, and music that definitly set the mood!

Having fun decorating!

Doesn't the class look festive?

Almost ready for the kids!

They can't wait to come in!

I did the Science Docent lesson today about chemical reactions and it was only fitting that we had a visit from a mad scientist. I asked Big D if he minds that I get silly and dress-up and he said "No, I like it!"

My mad scientist lab! Potions, body parts, etc...

The kids made goo! There were 3 centers - mummy wrap game, goo making, and popcorn gloves! I had several kids come up and say they can't wait to play with their goo!

My girlfriend, Lydia made these cute mummy wraps for the napkins. Gauze wrapped around the napkins with googlie eyes! So fun!

Peanut #1 enjoying his snack!

Mr. Barnes helping them make bats! (He had surgery on his back 2 weeks ago, hence the back brace).

I was happy with how these goodie bags turned out, wish I got a better picture of them. They received many treats!

Pumpkin Carving

The boys were ready for our annual pumpkin carving! We love to create fun jack-o-lanterns and rocking out to halloween music! This year was no different...

Little C was excited to get started.

He loves his pumpkin...

...until he started scrapping out the pumpkin guts. He started gagging and that was enough to curb his enthusiasm! Bummer! (He has a real sensitive gag reflex - sorry to share that with you bud).

Little C was making silly faces at us!

Big D getting ready to scrape out his pumpkin.

Little C's mad face - thanks Daddy for doing all the work!

Big D's tombstone - again, Dad you ROCK!

A brighter picture of the Jack's!

Youth Harvest Party

We had a blast at the Youth Harvest Party on Tuesday night! We gathered in the Tew's backyard, which was all decked out for the festivities. Seriously, my pictures do not do it justice. I really need to take a photography class!

Hanging from this tree are witches hats (about 20 of them) and skeltons!

Each table had a candelabra and lighted pumpkins.

The spooky cemetery....

... more pictures of the cemetery!

One of the 12 booths - this one is Gunning for Ghosts (you use squirt guns to be the first to knock off the ping pong ball head off the ghost)!

"Donuts on a rope" in the set up phase. These two ladies, Jill and Melissa,  are phenomenal - they worked the booth the whole night and their hands were covered in donut glaze! You are awesome!

A donut race in progress!

I love this young woman! Kara is beautiful and very talented! The party was in her back yard and she put together a pretty awesome music mix for us! Her and I danced a few songs together!

Another booth - "A Slice of Pie" the youth enjoyed the pie eating contest!

Marie you are dynamite!

Silly girls, thanks for the Bubble Chewing Contests!

Cruella Deville, aka Joanna Tew, was a gracious hostess! THANK YOU!

"Fear Factor" was a very popular booth. Not many people wanted to eat the sardines, pigs feet, pickled eggplant, etc... They just wanted to wait to see if someone else would!

The Stephensen's make a wonderful Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein.

Love ya Jill!

Weekly Scripture: "That ye contend no more against the Holy Ghost, but that ye receive it, and take upon you the name of Christ; that ye humble yourselves even to the dust, and worshop God, in whatsoever place ye may be in, in spirit and in truth; and that ye live in thanksgiving daily. For the many mercies and blessings which he doth bestow upon you." Alma 34:38

Show #1: Jesus went to a small town, where He saw ten lepers. These men had sores all over their bodies. Their skin was falling off. Luke 17:12

Show #2: Doctors could not help the lepers, and other people were afraid to go near them. The other people thought that they would get sick, too. Luke 17:12

Show #3: The lepers asked Jesus to heal them. They knew that He could make their sores go away. Luke 17:13

Show #4: Jesus wanted them to be well. He told them to go to the priests, so they did. Luke 17:14

Show #5: On their way to the priests, the ten lepers were healed. Their sores were gone. Jesus had healed them. Luke 17:14

Show #6: Knowing that Jesus had healed them, one of the lepers went back to thank Jesus. Jesus asked where the other nine lepers were. They had not come back to thank Him. He told the leper who had thanked Him that his faith had made him well. Luke 17:15–19

We then talked about the things we are grateful for.

Read the following story:

Pumpking Pie Surprise - A true story

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts … ; and be ye thankful (Col. 3:15).

“How many pies are we baking?” Jared asked. He pulled a chair up to the counter to help his mother make the pies. “A lot—one for Grandpa, one for your baby-sitter, one for Mr. Gomez next door, and pies for lots of other people. It’s my way of thanking them for all they do to help us.” “And we’re going to deliver them tomorrow, on Thanksgiving?” “First thing in the morning.”
Jared helped his mother roll out crusts, mix and pour fillings, and pinch the crust edges. Soon the kitchen smelled like pumpkin pies. “There’s someone else I want to make a thank-you pie for,” Jared said. “Who?” “It’s a surprise. Can we make an extra pie?” “Sure.” Jared rolled out the crust for another pie while his mother mixed the filling. In the morning, Jared and his mother carried the pies to the car. She drove very carefully to each house. “Thank you for everything you do,” Mother said to each person as they delivered the pies. Finally, there was only one pie left. “Where do we take your pie, Jared?” Mother asked. “To the fire station.” Mother looked surprised, but she turned onto the street that led to the fire station. “I want to thank the firefighters for being there to help us,” he explained. “They work even on holidays, when most people get to be home with their families.” “That’s a great idea, Jared.” He carried the pie into the fire station. The firefighters looked up from polishing their trucks. “What’s this?” the nearest firefighter asked. “It’s for you.” Jared handed the pie to the firefighter. “I want to thank all of you for being here on a holiday, ready to help everybody.” “No one’s ever done this for us before,” the firefighter said. “Thank you. We’ll really enjoy it.” “I think they liked the pie,” Jared told his mother as they returned to their car. “Yes, but I think that they liked your idea of thanking them best of all.” Mother hugged him. “And so did I.” “Let’s go home and bake another pie for us,” Jared suggested. “I think that’s another great idea!”
