Change is in the air

Today I finished rearranging the boys bedroom and wanted to share the results. I'm a little nervous about the bunk beds but will be praying for nights with safety and for my boys to make good choices (I don't want stunt men tryouts in the bedroom - if you know what I mean).

Before (I don't have very good before pictures):

After:

I got this bookcase for $10 at a thrift store (it's solid wood). I used some white paint that we had left over from another project and violla - a nice addition to their bedroom without spending big bucks! BTW - this is the only purchase I made for this bedroom makeover!

My fingers are crossed that we have no injuries!

Happy Rearranging to you, Megan

Dancing Fever

Last night at our Stake Trek Activity we all learned some new "pioneer" dances that we will perform at the hoedown that we will have up on the trail in August. I was so happy to see the youth enjoying themselves and really participating. Most of us wore our pioneer clothing and I have to say seeing almost everybody in their period costumes helped me to get real excited for the trek!

There was one point in the evening when one of the "dance instructor" got up on stage to announce that there will now be a demonstration of our next dance. To those in attendance this was the BIG SURPRISE. A group of us women, had prepared an "Evolution of Dance" of sorts and instead of showing them the next dance we performed our dance. It was received with applause and laughter! I think some of the youth were surprised to see their leaders doing some of the dances that are popular today - like the Soldja Boy!

After watching the video I am so happy with how well it turned out. We learned it rather quickly and for some in our group this was their first time dancing to certain types of music. I personally had so much fun putting the music and dance together and working as a group to fine tune it! It made me realize how much I miss being with a dance studio, where you can create and perform regularly!

On this day, 11 years ago

... Ryan and I were sealed together for time and all eternity. Our married life began within the sacred walls of the Oakland LDS Temple and there began our adventures. (Note: I would have posted pictures but my scanner is acting up, so I will try to post them later).

We have enjoyed travels that have taken us to 8 countries in Europe and South America, we have enjoyed taking a dance class, we have welcomed our two boys into the world (this one was one of our most difficult experiences - dealing with miscarriages, infertility, difficult pregnancies, etc...), we bought a house and developed skills to beautify our home, we've had moments that have taken our breathes away, we cheered each other on as we earned our college degrees (Ryan has one more year until he earns his MBA), we have had time to serve together, and most importantly we still are deeply in love with each other!

I am so fortunate to have this man by my side for eternity. Ryan thank you for being wonderful you: you're handsome, funny, kind, a good cook, a wonderful dad, you make me laugh with your dance moves, you are super involved with our children, you treat me like a queen, oh I could be here all day! I really married well and I cherish him so very much!

Summer of Sleuthing

Last month our ward family history consultant gave me a handout with the following information on it:

Family History Library Sponsors
SUMMER of SLEUTHING

"Are you looking for a fun activity to keep your children occupied this summer?" (my response was, ummm, yeah!)

"Would you like to learn more about your family?" (that would be cool was my thought)

"Do you need a kick start to organize your family records?" (I'm good on that front)

" 'Summer of Sleuthing - Save Our Ancestors' (SOS) is a family summer activities program sponsored by the Family History Library to introduce families to the fun of family history. With a series of weekly challenges, families can participate in activities that will help them learn more about themselves and their ancestors. The program materials are available online at wiki.familysearch.org listed under Activities for Youth."

I have to say this is looks like a very fun program and our family will have our first sleuthing activity tonight at our FHE. I personally love doing family research. I have a sister who is really good at it and she always finds the most difficult information. I love that we share this interest! What I'm super excited about is now involving my kids in the process of searching out our ancestors and getting to know them through the stories and pictures!

Happy Sleuthing to you and your family, Megan
