I was inspired by Nie Nie (see the button to her blog on the left side). She has celebrated this tradition with her children, as a way to get them excited about the school year. I am so grateful for her and other friends who have also done this for their children - thank you for your examples!
It was a nice evening - the boys were thrilled to be the guests of honor at our meal. Peanut #2 was really excited to wear his crown, Peanut #1 was thrilled deep down inside (I'm sure). C-man is getting so excited to start preschool and Big D, well he is looking forward to recess! We enjoyed a yummy meal where we talked briefly about what it means to return home from school each day with honor. [That they can be good examples to others, they can be helpful to their teacher's, they can handle disappointment with grace, they can be thoughtful and kind]. After our meal we watched a few video clips from the Mormon channel on you tube from President Hinckley. Then we were happy to welcome Gramps and Grandma Robin over for dessert.
The boys even helped to make the dessert crepes!
It was so neat to witness Ryan giving our boys a priesthood blessing - more specifically a Father's Blessing. Ryan's dad was able to give him one too as he is in his last year of the MBA program and this will be his most difficult year. I was also able to receive a blessing from my husband - I now feel like I am ready for the school year too!
The spirit was so strong this evening and I just hope that the boys make every effort to Return home With Honor each day!
Happy Schooling to you, Megan

LOVE the idea! I'll definitely have to try something like that next year! Sounds like a great night! :)
Great idea! By the way, the picture of Carson with his crown on and smiling looked exactly like some old pictures of Ryan when he was younger...and Dallin is quite stylish in his back to school photos. (This is Dan, in case it comes up as Bethanne)
